Lou Gurgitano is hard to pin down. Born in Uruguay, he has lived in one part or another of the US for almost 30 years. His former career as a freelance filmmaker and cinematographer took him all over the country and to various parts of the world. After deciding to take a break from filmmaking, he spent a year traveling in Mexico during which he realized that going back to his old life was not an option.
His passion for traveling and experiencing other cultures led him to start Native Shore Photography Tours with his long-time friend and photographer Terry Roueche. Utilizing his network of friends around the world, he now directs the tours he personally designs. His goal is to create for his tour participants authentic, out-of-the-box experiences—the things he himself seeks when traveling. He’s fluent in English, Spanish, and is currently taking an intensive course on Italian.
In addition to being a tour director, Lou is also the executive director of the Charlotte Film Festival, which he founded in 2005.
